How does Sax & Honey work?
Sax & Honey is a duo of female vocals and saxophone that performs using our own unique, specially commissioned recordings of keyboard/Steinway piano, guitar, double-bass, and drums. This enables us to create the energy and sound of a full, live, jazz band. The arrangements and recordings are all our own and have been recorded in a top London studio by the members of our own award-winning band, The Sugar Hill Jazz Band.

Can I book Sax & Honey as a smaller or bigger band?
Yes, by all means. We can offer a range of musical options for your day – ranging from a solo saxophonist to an instrumental duo, a trio, quartet or our full five-piece band. The ideal line-up for your event will depend on the kind of atmosphere you would like to create – whether it be stylish background jazz, a Las Vegas Lounge feel, an elegant dinner-dance or a high-energy evening event. You may wish to book more than one option to cater for the different parts of your day, and we will be very happy to tailor a package of entertainment especially for you.

What styles of music does Sax & Honey play?
Sax & Honey plays an extensive and varied repertoire of Ratpack swing, Latin Jazz, Jazz Standards, Jump Jive, Rock & Roll, Sixties, R&B and soulful contemporary music. The exact choice of music for your event will depend on your own musical tastes and the mood you would like to create. You are most welcome to request the set-list for your day - or you can leave it up to us as we are extremely experienced at judging the right music for each situation.

Can I request songs that aren’t on Sax & Honey’s set-list?
Yes, by all means feel free to ask us for any special musical requests for your day. We are an extremely versatile act and enjoy playing a wide range of musical styles so will be more than happy to add new songs especially for you. For an additional fee we can either purchase ready-made studio-quality backings or custom-make new recordings especially for your event.

Can Sax & Honey play in more than one location in my venue?
Yes, Sax & Honey can easily and quickly move to another location/room to another within your venue. This could include setting up in one area for your drinks reception and then moving to a second location for a sit-down meal. Moving our equipment takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes depending on the distance involved.

Can Sax & Honey play outside?
Yes, playing outside is absolutely fine. We will need an area of level ground to set up on, protection from the weather (sun/rain/wind) in the form of a gazebo, marquee or large umbrella and access to one domestic power point within approximately 10 metres of our playing location.

How can I get a quote from Sax and Honey?

To get a quote simply email or call us, providing us with as much information as you can about your event. Please do include a convenient contact phone number to call you on as we prefer to get back to you by phone as a first point of contact.

Once we have spoken with you about your plans, we will be very happy to send you a copy of our brochure and demo CD together with a formal quote outlining our services and fees.

Please do let us know if you would like us to hold your wedding date as a provisional booking. We can hold your date for up to four weeks, however as we take bookings up to two years in advance and are especially heavily booked through the summer, we do recommend that you contact us as soon as possible if you wish to secure your date.

How much does Sax & Honey charge?
Every event is unique, so it’s really important that we speak with you in person to ensure we have all the information we need to quote for your event.

Sax & Honey’s most popularly requested service is three 50-minute sets (or 150 minutes) of live music which can be divided to suit you over approximately five hours. The exact fee we charge will depend on our travel time and expense, how long we will be at your event and any other additional services you may ask us to provide.

We can provide quotes for a fewer number of sets over a shorter time-frame - or for a greater number of sets over a longer timeframe - so please do contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

We can also offer other line-ups for your day – from soloist or instrumental duo through to our full five or six-piece band The Sugar Hill Jazz Band

Block Bookings - We work regularly with restaurants and hotels supplying live music for special events, jazz evenings etc and offer significant discounts for multiple bookings. Please contact us for an accurate quote for your event.

Charitable Events - We offer substantial discounts for fund-raising events and charitable causes and can also donate copies of our CD. Please contact us to discuss the specifics of your event.

What is included in a quote from Sax & Honey?
Our quote will include:

• All the live music provided by Sax & Honey on your day (we can provide up to three 50-minute sets of live music for your day – although how these sets are divided is entirely up to you and can be spread over up to a five-hour time-frame)
• Provision of recorded background music in our breaks
• All the travel time and cost incurred in getting to and from your event – we travel all over the UK and abroad and will factor in our travel time and expense for your event
• All our own professional quality sound equipment and lighting
• Our offloading/set up/break down time on the day (we always arrive at least 90 minutes before we are due to play, though set-up itself takes no more than 20 minutes)
• Public Liability Insurance through our membership of the Musicians Union
• PAT Test certificates for all our electrical equipment (a requirement of most venues)
• All the liaison with you regarding the arrangements for your day
• Liaison via phone and email with your venue/wedding coordinator prior to the day to discuss arrival, set up etc. (please note that we do not make site visits to your venue, however we always ensure we get all the necessary information well in advance)

Does Sax & Honey supply all its own equipment?
Yes, we supply our own professional standard PA system comprising two speakers, a mixer, speaker stands, MP3 player, Shure Beta vocal microphones, leads, extension cords, microphone stands, music stands and recorded background music for breaks. All our electrical equipment is PAT tested and we are insured for Public Liability through the Musicians Union.

Is there anything extra Sax & Honey will require on the day?
Our contract with you always includes a request for a simple hot meal each and provision of bottled water/non-alcoholic drinks through the day.

If possible it is also useful to have access to a dressing/storage room where we can get changed, store our equipment and rest between sets.

On arrival we will need to be able to park our car as close as possible to our playing location in order to quickly and efficiently offload our equipment. Provision of allocated parking for the duration of our time at your venue is also greatly appreciated.

Can I see Sax & Honey performing live before I book?
Yes, you can - and we highly recommend it, as we want you to be completely assured of the quality service we will be providing for your day. We are currently resident musicians at Meze Meze Restaurant in North Finchley, London where we play most weeks on either Thursday or Friday nights (depending on our availability) between 7pm and 10pm. Please do contact us if you would like to come along and we will let you know our upcoming performance dates and will reserve you a table.

How do I confirm my booking of Sax & Honey?
To secure Sax & Honey’s services for your event simply phone or email us to confirm and we will arrange to send you a contract, letter of confirmation and invoice for the non-returnable deposit of £200 + VAT. We ask that you return the contract and deposit to us within seven days of receipt to secure your date.

How soon should I book?
If you are planning a summer wedding then you’ll know that the popular dates fill up fast and that the best suppliers get booked well in advance - so it is really never too soon to confirm your booking. We have up to 40 confirmed bookings in our diary at any time and are happy to take bookings up to two years in advance so it is advisable to secure your date with us as soon as you can.

What if Sax & Honey is already booked on my day?
In the event that Sax & Honey is already booked on your day, we can still offer you the identical Sax & Honey act featuring an alternative female vocalist and saxophonist. They will perform the exact same repertoire, using our own unique specially commissioned recordings and our own professional PA system, so in all other respects the act will be identical to that which you have seen and heard on this website. What if one or both members of Sax & Honey falls sick on the day of my event?
In the rare event that one (or both) of us is unable to perform on your day due to illness or injury, we can call on our extensive pool of experienced vocalists and saxophonists to provide the identical service for you. (Please see above – What if Sax & Honey is already booked on my day – for further information about our alternative musicians.)

What if I have to postpone or cancel my booking?
If you need to postpone or cancel your event then we will charge a cancellation fee as outlined in our contract with you. If you are postponing your event then the cancellation fee will simply be deducted from the total fee owed once you confirm your new date. The total fee quoted may increase (or decrease) if the travel time is significantly greater (or less) than originally agreed, or if your new date is more than twelve months after the original date booked. The line-up of vocalist and saxophonist may also vary subject to our availability.
